Apply two questions. Wearability: can you wear it to the places your life actually happens - office, errands, dinners - without planning around it? Longevity: has this look appeared before in some form? Silhouette shifts (wide-leg trousers, longer coats) and recurring colors (burgundy, forest green) score high on both and justify real budget. Novelty details (extreme proportions, visible logos, costume references) score low and should be tested cheaply or skipped. A third check: does it work with three things you already own? A trend that demands a new wardrobe to support it is not a trend purchase, it is a lifestyle change.
